ORGANIC/TRANSLUCENT...........RECENT ABSTRACTIONS.... LATE SUMMER EARLY FALL TREES

UNTITLED TRANSPARENCIES | LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL TREES is a series of botanical abstractions from gardens and open spaces I find walking around cities and urban dwellings. Printed on acetate and mounted on panes of glass and Plexiglas, the silhouettes of trees and branches create delicate patterns suggesting tributaries or blood vessels just beneath the skin. When the glass panes sit on a ledge and lean against a white wall, they play with our sense of perspective by casting a shadow and creating a triangular projection. When the image is mounted on lighter materials like Plexiglas, the images seem to float on the surface of the wall. The resulting overlap of shades and colors conveys a sense of three dimensionality and what a friend visiting my studio described as a kind of Alice in Wonderland effect.

UNTITLED TRANSPARENCIES | EARLY FALL [no. 1577] (left) is mounted on Plexiglas and rests on a pair of white panel nails.

UNTITLED TRANSPARENCIES | LATE SUMMER [nos. 794, 792] (right) are mounted on glass and exhibited on a narrow ledge. The images cast a shadow against the surface of the gallery wall. These two works were exhibited in Ingenious Methodology, a group exhibition at Causey Contemporary in 2009. (more)
